Tennessee football star slot wide receiver Braylon Staley suffered a big hit over the middle in the first quarter of the Vols’ game against Oklahoma and was helped to the sideline. On the attempt over the middle, he was hammered in his attempt to reel in the catch, leading to him heading to the injury tent.

Tennessee began to put together a strong drive on the play, but Joey Aguilar fumbled, and the ball was returned for a touchdown to tie the game up at seven. However, Staley was back on the field for the ensuing drive. He caught a pass over the middle for a nine-yard reception to move the chains.

To begin the game, Staley had recorded one catch for a five-yard touchdown. It was from 12 personnel on a play action pass that saw him make a great pass on a great throw to score on the opening drive.

Heading into the game, Staley owned 47 receptions for 628 yards and three touchdowns. This past week, he was one of three receivers to go over 100 yards in the win over Kentucky on the road, which featured 56 points scored.

Tennessee and Oklahoma now meet with a playoff spot potentially on the line. Both teams enter with two losses, making the loser all but officially eliminated from contention barring total chaos. A win would keep both teams’ chances alive, although winning out is likely necessary.

Kickoff was scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET and is airing on ABC. The Vols beat Oklahoma in Norman a year ago in Josh Heupel’s return to his alma mater. He was a national championship quarterback for OU during his playing days and spent years on the coaching staff after graduation.
