Tennessee Football will break out the fourth edition of its Smokey Grey alternate uniforms this Saturday afternoon when the Volunteers host New Mexico State in the third-to-last game of the regular season.

The 2025 uniforms are a tribute to Tennessee’s Volunteer Spirit and the state’s reputation of service in the United States military.

“Tennessee’s defining pillar of service and selfless leadership for more than 200 years, the ‘Volunteer Spirit’ provides the inspiration behind the newest Nike Smokey Grey series football uniform that will honor the United States Armed Forces during the fall of 2025,” Tennessee published in a press release over the summer. “The ‘Volunteer Spirit’ uniform also pays tribute to the ultimate legendary Volunteer, Davy Crockett, and was brought to life in collaboration with the Tennessee Military Department, the 134th Air Refueling Wing in East Tennessee and the Tennessee National Guard.”

Tennessee will wear the uniforms during UT’s Salute to Service game against the Aggies.

“A striking, two-tone Smokey grey jersey and pants combination resembles a similar look of steel forged from military artillery,” Tennessee published in a press release over the summer. “Volunteers is proudly etched across the chest of the jersey. Each stitch woven into the fabric of the uniform serves as a tribute to the state’s rich military heritage. Sharp, stencil numbers on the front, back and shoulders of the jersey, as well as the back of the helmet, are inspired by military standard font. The popular ‘Star Vols’ logo returns for the first time since the turn of the century. It appears as both a military-inspired patch on the front of the pants and on the front helmet bumper.”

Here’s a look at what combinations the Vols have used this season:

  • Week 1 (vs Syracuse in Atlanta): Orange-and-White
  • Week 2 (vs ETSU in Knoxville): Orange-and-White
  • Week 3 (vs Georgia in Knoxville): Orange-and-White
  • Week 4 (vs UAB in Knoxville): All-Orange
  • Week 5 (at Mississippi State in Starkville): All-Orange
  • Week 6 (BYE)
  • Week 7 (vs Arkansas in Knoxville): Orange-and-White
  • Week 8 (at Alabama in Tuscaloosa): All-White
  • Week 9 (at Kentucky in Lexington): All-White
  • Week 10 (vs Oklahoma in Knoxville: Dark Mode
  • Week 11 (BYE)
  • Week 12 (vs New Mexico State in Knoxville): Smokey Grey – Volunteer Spirit

The Volunteers will take on the New Mexico State Aggies (3-6) coming off the bye week this Saturday afternoon in Neyland Stadium. While the open date presented an extended break between games, Tennessee is still looking to avenge a loss in Week 10 to the Oklahoma Sooners at home. That OU loss did essentially eliminate Tennessee from the College Football Playoffs, but the Vols still have a lot to play for. Nine wins and three losses still looks a heck of a lot better than seven wins and five losses, after all.

The Aggies shouldn’t present a big challenge to the Vols this weekend, but it will be a nice tune-up after the bye to get ready for two massive rivalry games to close down the season. Tennessee goes on the road to Gainesville to take on the Florida Gators next weekend, and will host Vanderbilt in the final week of the regular season from Knoxville.

Tennessee is a 40.5-point favorite over New Mexico State according to ESPN Bet on Monday morning, and the Vols have a 99% chance to win according to ESPN Analytics.

The 23rd-ranked Vols will host the Aggies on Saturday, Nov. 15, at 4:15 p.m. ET from Neyland Stadium. The game will be on the SEC Network.
