No. 23 Tennessee defeated New Mexico State by a score of 42-9 on Saturday afternoon in Neyland Stadium to move to 7-3 with two remaining games against Florida and Vanderbilt left on the schedule.
Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel met with the media for nine minutes after the game to give his thoughts on the win.
“I thought defensively we played well in the first half getting off the field,” Heupel said on Saturday night. “Did a good job at the line of scrimmage handling some of the perimeter screen game really well. Offensively, a little bit up and down in the first half. Execution, really the turnovers hurt. And I thought defensively they did a good job responding to those. And then offensively getting points off the turnover and obviously Will Wright, big play in the second half too. So still a lot of things to clean up here. Get back to SEC play next week and go on the road, so get ready to go.”
Tennessee also had five players speak to the media after the game. Quarterback Joey Aguilar and running back DeSean Bishop spoke in one group, and defensive lineman Daevin Hobbs, defensive back Ty Redmond, and defensive back William Wright spoke in the other.
