Two weeks into the season, and Tennessee basketball’s freshman phenom, Nate Ament, has a pair of SEC Freshman of the Week honors to boast. This came after just one game for the Vols last week, a 99-66 win over North Florida at home.
In the win over the Ospreys, Ament posted 19 points, nine rebounds, five assists, two steals and one block. According to UT Athletics, Ament became the fifth SEC freshman in the last 20 years to record that stat line in a contest, joining Ben Simmons, James Young, Archie Goodwin and John Wall.
Only one other Tennessee player has done so in the past 20 years, as well, regardless of class. That was Igor Milicic Jr. last season.

This is now the 24th SEC Freshman of the Week honor to head to Rocky Top since the 2005-06 season. Since Rick Barnes took over the program, it is the 12th award. No Tennessee player has won the award twice in one season since Zakai Zeigler did so in the 2021-22 season. Ament is also the first Vol to win it in back-to-back weeks.
On the year, Ament owns averages of 20.0 points, 8.7 rebounds and 3.7 assists through three games. He is shooting 46.2% from the field, 28.6% on threes and 76.9% from the free throw line in this span. This comes on 28.7 minutes per outing.
Next, Tennessee will host Rice on Monday night in Food City Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. ET and will air on SEC Network.
