Florida football has dealt with no shortage of injuries this year as a once promising season has turned into a frustrating autumn for the Gators. The Wednesday night injury report brought bad news for the Gators as they ruled out starting defensive linemen George Gumbs.
Gumbs has started nine of Florida’s 10 games this season but suffered an injury last week against Ole Miss and is having season-ending knee surgery according to Swamp247’s Graham Hall.
A senior defensive end, Gumbs has totaled 31 tackles, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery so far this season. Florida has struggled to rush the passer but Gumbs has been one of its best edge rushers, totaling 2.5 sacks which ranks second on the team.
Gumbs has totaled 345 snaps this season, earning a 68.4 overall grade according to PFF. He’s played 30-plus snaps in all but two games this season including 53, 38 and 57 snaps in the three games since Florida fired Billy Napier and Billy Gonzalez took over as interim head coach.

The Gators are also down edge rusher LJ McCray who played sparingly early this season before suffering an injury in Florida’s upset loss against South Florifa.
Tennessee enters its rivalry matchup against Florida boasting a 7-3 (3-3 SEC) record. The Vols are out of College Football Playoff contention but still have plenty to play for with two rivalry games remaining on the schedule. Tennessee has not won in Gainesville since 2003 and is looking to end the long road losing streak in the series.
This is as good a year as any for Tennessee to get the Gators. Florida has already fired head coach Billy Napier and enters the matchup 3-7 (2-5 SEC). Tennessee is currently four-point favorites over Florida according to the DKSportsbook. The over/under is set at 57.5.
Kickoff from Ben Hill Griffin Stadium is at 7:30 p.m. ET on Saturday night. Chris Fowler, Kirk Herbstreit and Holly Rowe are on the call for ABC.
