Former Tennessee Vol Jauan Jennings was involved in a couple of dramatic moments during the San Francisco 49ers’ win over the Carolina Panthers on Monday Night Football.

Late in the game, Carolina safety Tre’Von Moehrig clearly hit Jennings with a punch beneath the belt. It was hard to see from the referee’s perspective, but the ESPN MNF cameras caught it clear as day.

After the game, Jennings approached Moehrig and delivered a push to the safety’s facemask before being separated by players and staff members. Jenning was even taken to the ground by his own staff while trying to get him away from the situation. The moment from Jennings was clearly in retaliation for the blatant cheap shot from the Carolina defensive back.

We’ll see if the NFL drops down any sort of consequences for either Jennings or Moehrig after reviewing the tape. Jennings’ shot might be justified in the eyes of many, but that might not keep him out of the woods in terms of a possible fine or suspension.

“The TV (tape) is going to tell you what happened, man,” Jennings said to reporters after the game. “I was just responding to, to me, some childish behavior. That’s all it was.”

Niners head coach Kyle Shanahan also addressed the incident after the game.

“Yeah, the guy took a cheap shot and hit him in the balls,” Shanahan said. “I was real proud of Jauan for not losing his mind out there and getting him to the sideline.”

Jennings finished the game with five receptions for 41 yards. He also scored a touchdown on the Niners’ opening drive, where he barreled his way through multiple Carolina defenders en route to the endzone.

On the season as a whole, Jennings has 419 receiving yards and four touchdowns on 37 receptions. After a slow start that saw him battle a plethora of tough injuries, the former Tennessee wideout has been on a heater lately. He’s caught a touchdown in three of his last four games.

The 49ers (8-4) will return to action on Sunday afternoon for a contest against Dylan Sampson’s Cleveland Browns.
