The Friday availability report for Tennessee football’s matchup vs. Vanderbilt is here. With the Vols dealing with some injury, it’s a lot of familiar names involved.
Tennessee’s game against the Commodores, which features some College Football Playoff implications, will kick off at 3:30 p.m. ET. The game airs on ESPN.
Here’s the list for both teams and what you need to know.
More From RTI: RTI Game Predictions: Tennessee vs. Vanderbilt
OUT – CB Rickey Gibson III
Rickey Gibson, after suffering an injury early in the season opener against Syracuse, will miss Saturday’s game against Vanderbilt. When asked the Monday following the win over the Orange, Josh Heupel gave some discouraging news.
“Rickey will be out for an extended period here,” Heupel said. “How long, I don’t have the exact timeline on. But he’ll be out for an extended time.”
This has ultimately resulted in him missing every game of the regular season, besides those opening moments against Syracuse.
OUT – CB Jermod McCoy
Jermod McCoy, a preseason All-American and projected first-round draft pick, also remains inactive. He suffered an offseason ACL injury and returned to practice in a limited form this fall.
Heupel commented on the chance he could play this season on the Wednesday before playing New Mexico State. However, he remains listed as inactive and won’t play in a regular-season game this year.
“Jermod, I’ve said it throughout the course of the season, and obviously, a tough injury for him and for us while we were off last January before we came back and started our off-season, he’s done a great job,” Heupel said on the SEC Coaches Teleconference. “Competed really hard and been a great teammate throughout all of the rehab process. Continues to do more on the football side of it. Don’t have an expectation for this Saturday yet, but he continues to do the right things to give himself a chance here at the end of the year.”
OUT – TE Miles Kitselman
Miles Kitselman has been the starting tight end all season for Tennessee. However, in the second half of the win over New Mexico State, he was run into by Peyton Lewis on a rush, which resulted in a lower-body injury. He was ruled out of the game vs. Florida and won’t play against Vanderbilt, either.
On the year, Kitselman has produced 25 receptions for 250 yards and two touchdowns. Behind him, it’s been Ethan Davis, then Jack Van Dorselaer and a bit of DaSaahn Brame.
Saturday will be Kitselman’s Senior Day. His position coach, Alec Abeln, spoke on what he’s meant to the program.
“It’s a blessing. It really is,” Abeln said on Tuesday. “And certainly changed my life for the better and changed our room for the better. Changed this program for the better. Can’t talk enough about just who he is as a human being. Who he is as a teammate. Will probably be a little emotional on Saturday, knowing it’s his last time in Neyland. But really appreciate the work he’s done and continues to do for this team and I’m excited for the future for him.”
QUESTIONABLE – RB Peyton Lewis
Tennessee football may be without one of its three contributing running backs for its game vs. Vanderbilt this weekend. Sophomore back Peyton Lewis missed the game at Florida and begins this week as questionable.
Lewis suffered an injury during a disastrous drive for the Vols in their 42-9 win over New Mexico State. Despite the possession ending in a touchdown for Lewis, tight end Miles Kitselman, offensive lineman Wendell Moe Jr. and running backs Lewis and DeSean Bishop all exited with injury in the span of just a handful of plays.
This means it would likely feature a good bit of Bishop and Star Thomas, with freshman Daune Morris filling in the gaps Lewis leaves as a kick returner and running back, if Lewis can’t go.
QUESTIONABLE – DL Jordan Ross
Jordan Ross sat out of the Vols’ recent win over New Mexico State due to precautionary reasons, but has played in all other games this season. The following week against Florida, he returned to action and played 10 snaps. He recorded one tackle in the win over the Gators.
