Alex Golesh is bringing a former Tennessee staffer with him to Auburn. Former Tennessee receivers coach Kodi Burns is following Golesh to Auburn, Auburn247’s Nathan King first reported on Sunday.

Burns was Tennessee’s receivers coach during the 2021 season before leaving to become the receivers coach of the New Orleans Saints. New Orleans let Burns go following the 2024 season and he re-united with Golesh in Tampa as South Florida’s receivers coach and co-offensive coordinator.

USF had its best season in nearly a decade this past year, going 9-3 with a win over Florida which helped Golesh get the Auburn job.

Following Golesh to Auburn makes too much sense. Burns played at Auburn from 2007 to 2010, beginning his career as a quarterback but eventually moving to receiver. Burns was a part of Auburn’s 2010 National Championship team and even caught a touchdown in the title game against Oregon.

Burns and Golesh worked closely together at Tennessee in 2021 with Golesh coaching the tight ends and Burns coaching the receivers. Burns was the only Tennessee assistant to leave after the 2021 season before Heupel promoted Kelsey Pope to fill the position. Pope has been Tennessee’s receiver coach ever since.

This is Burns; third stint as an assistant coach at Auburn. He was previously a graduate assistant in 2013 and then was on Gus Malzahn’s staff from 2016-20 as the receivers coach and as co-offensive coordinator for part of that time.

Burns and Golesh will take a return trip to Knoxville next fall when Tennessee hosts Auburn in a SEC matchup at Neyland Stadium. The exact date of the game is not yet set.
