Tennessee football has completed its push for one of its top remaining defensive targets. Jordan Carter, a four-star edge rusher and former Texas A&M commit, picked the Vols over Texas, Georgia Tech and Auburn.
He took an unofficial visit to see the Vols on Nov. 1, the same day he decommitted from his pledge to the Aggies. This lined up with Tennessee’s loss to Oklahoma at home. While the Vols fell in the matchup, it did leave a positive impression on recruits across the country who made it to campus.
Two weeks later, Carter returned to Knoxville for his official visit on Nov. 15. That was for the win over New Mexico State. He also took officials to Georgia Tech and Auburn before reaching this final decision.

The battle for Carter was for one of the best defenders in the class. According to 247‘s rankings, he was previously considered the No. 120 player in the country, No. 15 edge rusher and No. 12 player from the state of Georgia. However, after a rankings refresh, he held onto his four-star status, but lost his national rankings.
Carter plays for Douglas County High School in Douglasville, Georgia.
“Thick edge defender with a well-rounded game that should offer some alignment flexibility at the next level as he might ultimately kick inside,” 247’s Andrew Ivins noted. “…A coordinated mover with some lateral quickness at 245 pounds that plays with impressive balance and awareness.”
Ivins also compares Carter to Cameron Lenhardt, a junior at Nebraska.
So far, Tennessee has signed 26 players, not including Carter. This features every verbal commit, except for Salesi Moa, who is unlikely to sign anywhere today. He is also considering Michigan and Utah.
The Vols’ class ranks as the No. 3 recruiting class in the country via 247’s rankings before the commitment of Carter, as well.
