The top-four seeds in the bracket will receive a first-round bye. That means Indiana, Ohio State, Georgia and Texas Tech move straight to the quarterfinals. There are no automatic qualifiers to be a top-four seed by winning a conference championship like in 2024. Instead, it’s simply the top-four ranked teams.

The teams seeded five through eight get the opportunity to host a home playoff game in the first round. Here are those seeds and who they will be matched up with:

  • 5-seed Oregon vs. 12-seed James Madison (Eugene, Oregon)
  • 6-seed Ole Miss vs. 11-seed Tulane (Oxford, Mississippi)
  • 7-seed Texas A&M vs. 10-seed Miami (College Station, Texas)
  • 8-seed Oklahoma vs. 9-seed Alabama (Norman, Oklahoma)

There will be one first-round game on Friday, Dec. 19. The other three matchups will be played on Saturday, Dec. 20. Those game designations will be decided at a later time. The quarterfinals will begin with the Cotton Bowl on Wednesday, Dec. 31, with the Orange Bowl, Rose Bowl and Sugar Bowl all played on Thursday, Jan. 1.

The semifinals will feature the Fiesta Bowl on Thursday, Jan. 8, and the Peach Bowl on Friday, Jan. 9. The national title game will be held on Monday, Jan. 19, at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida, at 7:30 p.m. ET with the game airing on ESPN.

Teams that sit just outside the bracket and will be watching from home include Notre Dame, Texas, Vanderbilt and BYU. Duke, the ACC champion, is also not in the field after finishing 8-5 on the year.
