Former Tennessee running back Jaylen Wright found his first career NFL touchdown on Sunday during a career-high showing in a big win over the New York Jets in East Rutherford. Wright’s touchdown run came in the first quarter to put the Dolphins up 21-0, setting up Miami for the 34-10 win.

Miami running back De’Von Achane left the game due to injury in the second quarter, setting up a feature role for Wright with the Dolphins’ offense. Wright wound up having 24 of the Dolphins’ 41 carries on the day, finishing the game with a career-high 107 rushing yards. He blew his previous career-high output of the water on Sunday, which came in an 86-yard showing against the Patriots early into his rookie season last year.

“I mean, this is what I expected — I know I can do this,” Wright said after the game, via ESPN. “Just give me a ball. I know what I’m going to do.”

Entering the game, Wright had just 65 total rushing yards in five games this season. The Jets don’t pose any sort of quality defense, but Wright certainly made the most of his opportunity on Sunday afternoon.

With the win over the Jets, the Dolphins moved to 6-7 on the year. Miami started the season at 1-6, but has rattled off five wins in its last six games, including four straight victories.

Wright, a former fourth-round pick out of Tennessee in the 2024 NFL Draft, is in his second season in the league. As a rookie, he tallied 249 yards in 15 games for the Dolphins. During his three seasons at Tennessee, Wright totaled 2,297 rushing yards and 18 total touchdowns. The 5-foot-10 running back put up 1,013 rushing yards in his final season with the Vols in 2023.
