Tennessee Basketball followed up its win over Louisville last Tuesday with a dominant win over Gardner-Webb on Sunday afternoon in Knoxville. The Vols beat the Runnin’ Bulldogs by a score of 94-52 in the Food City Center.
Tennessee started a bit sluggish, but soon got things into action. Gardner-Webb hardly presented any resistance to the Volunteers throughout the game, especially once Tennessee started to find its stride after a few minutes on the court.
The Vols had four double-digit scorers, with Ja’Kobi Gillespie and Amaree Abram scoring 15 points, Jaylen Carey knocking down 12 points, and JP Estrella scoring 10 points. Freshman center DeWayne Brown started his second straight game for the Vols and wound up with a game-high 14 rebounds. He doubled the next closest player, with JP Estrella tallying seven rebounds.
After the game, Tennessee head coach Rick Barnes and Gardner-Webb head coach Jeremy Luther both spoke to the media to share their reactions to the contest. The Vols also had DeWayne Brown and JP Estrella take some questions after the win.
