Tennessee football is heavily in the mix for one of the top-ranked offensive tackle recruits in the class of 2027. Layton Von Brandt, a high-four-star prospect, named the Vols, Florida, Virginia Tech, Penn State, Notre Dame, Ohio State, LSU and Auburn as his top eight, according to Rivals.

Von Brandt is considered the No. 38 recruit in the country on 247 Composite. However, earlier in the cycle, he was up to No. 28 in the class on the service, making him a five-star at that time. While he has dropped to a four-star, he is still in the mix to be bumped back up to five-star status as he prepares for his senior year.

Von Brandt clocks in as the No. 5 offensive tackle and top player from the state of Delaware in the class, as well. He is from Middletown and plays for Appoquinimink.

Tennessee extended its offer to Von Brandt back in February of 2025. He has not publicly announced any visits to Knoxville, though.

However, this has all come after his initial commitment. He committed to Penn State in November of 2024 while on an unofficial visit. He would hold on to that pledge until the day James Franklin was fired. He still lists the Nittany Lions as a top school, but also includes Franklin’s new Virginia Tech program.

The Vols currently hold four commitments in the 2027 cycle. This is headlined by in-state offensive lineman Princeton Uwaifo. He ranks as the No. 110 player in the country and holds four-star status, via 247.

Three-star commitments in the boat so far include defensive lineman Kadin Fife, cornerback Kamauri Whitfield and linebacker JP Peace. The group ranks as the No. 13 class in the country on 247.
