Former Tennessee football running back, turned Virginia Tech wide receiver, Cameron Seldon, is back in the transfer portal, according to a report from Matt Zenitz. Seldon spent two seasons with the Vols and one with the Hokies. He will have one more year of eligibility remaining.
This past season with Virginia Tech, Seldon played his first collegiate season as a receiver. He posted 23 receptions for 165 yards and two touchdowns in 11 games played and three starts. He also recorded seven carries for 28 yards.
At Tennessee, Seldon was buried on the depth chart at running back, but did get some time as a kick returner. As a sophomore in 2024, for a UT team that went to the College Football Playoffs, he played in six games while posting 118 yards and a touchdown on 23 carries.
As a true freshman, Seldon recorded 25 rushes for 106 yards. He was a four-star recruit out of high school and one of the top players in the class. 247 considered the prospect out of Heathsville, Virginia, as the No. 77 overall recruit, No. 3 athlete and top player from the state in the 2023 class.

Seldon is entering the portal after losing his head coach at Virginia Tech, Brent Pry. However, though James Franklin is now taking over the program, Pry has remained on the staff as the team’s defensive coordinator. Still, Seldon is hopping into the portal for the second time in two years in an attempt to find a new home.
As far as Tennessee, it’s lost eight players to the transfer portal so far. This includes backup quarterback Jake Merklinger, backup running back Peyton Lewis, defensive back Marcus Goree Jr., linebacker Brenden Anes, edge rusher Kellen Lindstrom and defensive tackle Jamal Wallace.
UT also has lost defensive back Boo Carter and lineman Trevor Duncan to the portal. However, Carter has not been with the team since November, and Duncan was not with the team this past season after initially medically retiring from the sport.
