Former Tennessee Football Offensive Lineman is Transferring for His Final Year of Eligibility

A former Tennessee football offensive lineman is back in the portal ahead of his final season of eligibility. According to a report from 247, Maurice ‘Mo’ Clipper is departing from Charlotte. He has played for the 49ers for the past two seasons after beginning his career with two seasons at UT.

This past season, Clipper was the starting left guard in all 12 of Charlotte’s games. Clipper totalled 701 snaps on the season for a PFF grade of 55.3. As a pass blocker, he was graded at 52.0. In the run game, he was at 54.1.

In 2024, Clipper came off the bench in each of his appearances for the 49ers. He played both left guard and right guard during the season. He played a total of 87 snaps that year across eight games for a PFF grade of 53.0.

In 2023, at Tennessee, Clipper played in just two games. He saw five snaps of action in the season opener against Virginia and then 14 snaps against UConn later in the year. He earned a PFF grade of 54.7 across those two games.

As a true freshman in 2022 with the Vols, he played against Ball State and UT Martin. In a total of 15 snaps, he logged a PFF grade of 56.2. Clipper was a three-star recruit out of high school, according to 247. He was the No. 735 recruit in the country, according to 247 Composite, as well, out of Alpharetta, Georgia.

As far as Tennessee, it’s lost eight players to the transfer portal so far. This includes backup quarterback Jake Merklinger, backup running back Peyton Lewis, defensive back Marcus Goree Jr., linebacker Brenden Anes, edge rusher Kellen Lindstrom and defensive tackle Jamal Wallace.

UT also has lost defensive back Boo Carter and lineman Trevor Duncan to the portal. However, Carter has not been with the team since November, and Duncan was not with the team this past season after initially medically retiring from the sport.
