UNLV quarterback Anthony Colandrea became the latest signal caller to hop in the transfer portal on Friday afternoon after a strong junior season. According to one report, Tennessee could be a player in the dual-threat quarterback’s recruitment.
On3’s Pete Nakos reported that Colandrea is reported to command serious power four interest in this recruiting cycle. Nakos stated that Florida State and Tennessee are two early teams to watch for in Colandrea’s portal recruitment.
Colandrea completed 275-of-417 passes for 3,459 yards, 23 touchdowns and nine interceptions last season for the Rebels. His legs were also a major weapon as he rushed 649 yards and two touchdowns. The St. Petersburg, Florida native has a career resurgence in his lone year at UNLV playing for Dan Mullen.
The 6-foot, 205-pound signal caller spent the first two years of his career at Virginia with mixed results. He started 11 games in 2024, completing 62% of his passes for 2,125 yards, 13 touchdowns and 11 interceptions while adding 277 yards and two touchdowns on the ground.

Colandrea played in eight games and started six in 2023, completing 62.6% of his passes for 1,958 yards, 13 touchdowns and nine interceptions.
The dual-threat quarterback was quickly thrust into the mix in his freshman season after starting quarterback Tony Muskett suffered an injury in the season opener against Tennessee. Colandrea came in and completed two-of-seven passes for 12 yards while rushing for 17 yards on two carries against the Vols.
Tennessee’s need for a quarterback in the transfer portal is not entirely clear at this moment. As the current NCAA eligibility rules stand, Joey Aguilar is out of eligibility after this season.
However, Aguilar is a plaintiff on a lawsuit that is challenging NCAA eligibility rules as it relates to former junior college athletes. That lawsuit appears to have a real chance of changing the eligibility rules. But the timeline on when that will happen leaves Tennessee in flux.
