The college football world is buzzing on Monday with the news that Auburn wide receiver Cam Coleman is hitting the transfer portal. He’s a game-changing receiver who has immediately been listed as the top overall player in the transfer portal by On3 Sports.
During his sophomore season in 2025, Coleman caught 56 passes for 708 yards and five touchdowns. In two years with the Tigers, the 6-foot-3 wideout has logged 93 receptions for 1,306 yards and 13 touchdowns. While his numbers might not completely jump off the page, his talent shouldn’t be overlooked. On a future team with a productive offense, Coleman could be one of the top statistical players in the nation.
“Cam Coleman is a freak athlete at 6-foot-3 who’s as good in contested situations as any wide receiver in the country,” PFF’s Max Chadwick said about Coleman. “He’s not only a WR1 at the college level, but also a potential WR1 in the NFL.”
In addition to being a top player in the portal, Coleman may also be a direct Tennessee opponent during the 2026 season.
In a social media post on Monday, Chadwick listed Alabama, LSU, and Texas A&M as potential landing spots for the former Auburn player. Additionally, On3 Sports’ Pete Nakos reported on Monday that Texas is another team in the mix. If the reports wind up being accurate and Coleman lands with any of these schools mentioned, he’ll wind up on the Vols’ 2026 schedule.

Tennessee plays Alabama, LSU, Texas A&M, and Texas next season. The games against the Crimson Tide, Longhorns, and Tigers will all be in Knoxville, while the Aggies game will be in College Station. It’ll be a monster task for Tennessee’s secondary, regardless of which of these four teams he may wind up with.
Coleman departs the Auburn program just about a month after the hiring of former Tennessee offensive coordinator Alex Golesh as the Tigers’ next head coach. Golesh helped orchestrate Tennessee’s 2021 and 2022 offense before being hired as the head coach at South Florida from 2023 to 2025. His success in Tampa helped land him a job back in the SEC.
Whether it be for financial or for schematic reasons, Coleman won’t be part of Golesh’s first Auburn roster. There’s no doubt that he’ll be one of the most sought-after targets in the portal this offseason and will assuredly command a huge price tag.
If Coleman stayed with Auburn, he would’ve been on Tennessee’s 2026 schedule. The Vols host the Tigers in September. But even with his departure, it still looks like there’s a strong possibility he remains on the Vols’ schedule – just with a better team.
