The Music City Bowl held team media sessions in Nashville on Monday as both Tennessee and Illinois go through their final events and prep before Tuesday’s game in Nissan Stadium. Illinois head coach Bret Bielema and his staff spoke to the media first, followed by Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel, offensive coordinator Joey Halzle, and interim defensive coordinator William Inge.
Heupel spoke to the media for about 10 minutes as he talked about his team’s preparation and excitement for Tuesday’s contest. The Volunteers are coming off an 8-4 season in Heupel’s fifth year on Rocky Top.
Halzle and Inge had a joint interview that lasted just under seven minutes. Halzle spoke about Tennessee’s offensive side of the ball and the quarterback room, while Inge talked about the Vols’ defense under his command and linebacker Edwin Spillman.
