Former Kansas State safety Qua Moss committed to Tennessee on Sunday afternoon to give the Vols their first transfer portal addition in the cycle. Moss will be a true senior in 2026 after spending his previous season with the Wildcats in The Little Apple.

Moss is immediately an impact transfer for Tennessee because of his skill set and position. The safety spot is somewhere that Tennessee needed to upgrade during this portal cycle, and Moss is a step in the right direction for that. Moss could replace Andre Turrentine at the deep safety position, but there’s also a possibility he could fill in Jalen McMurray’s spot at the STAR safety position. We’ll have to wait and see.

During the Wildcats’ 2025 campaign, Moss logged 41 tackles, one forced fumble, and one sack. He also caught two interceptions in back-to-back games against Arizona and Central Florida.

Moss’s first interception against the year against Arizona saw him capitalize on an errant trick play from the opposing Wildcats. The ‘Zona quarterback handed it off to the running back, moving left to right, and then the running back felt pressure and just heaved it up. Moss jumped the route on the pass that didn’t have nearly the distance for the easy takeaway.

Moss’s second interception in the following game was a true jaw-dropping play, though. Late in the Wildcats’ game against Central Florida, the quarterback for the Knights threw a deep ball down the right sideline. Moss was in coverage down the sideline, and somehow wrestled the ball out of the air and kept his body in-bounds for the interception.

The quarterback who made the throw for UCF was former Tennessee signal-caller Tayven Jackson.

Moss is a big addition for Jim Knowles’ defense, but the work is far from over. Tennessee still has positions of need that it is reportedly hunting down during the free-for-all that is the portal window this month.
