Four-star wing Chris Washington Jr is officially visiting Tennessee basketball on Jan. 31 as the Vols host Auburn in a marquee SEC matchup in Knoxville, Rivals’ Joe Tipton first reported and a source confirmed to RTI Wednesday.
Washington is a former Alabama commit and Murfreesboro native who stars at Providence Christian Academy in Murfreesboro. The Vols originally made his top seven back over the summer before he committed and then de-committed to the Crimson Tide back in the fall.
The 6-foot-9, 195-pound wing ranks as a four-star recruit and the No. 41 player in the country according to the 247sports composite rankings. He also ranks as the No. 20 small forward and the top player in the state of Tennessee in the 2026 recruiting cycle.
While Tennessee was originally in Washington’s top seven, the January visit will be his first with Tennessee basketball. He previously visited Cincinnati, Ole Miss, Florida A&M and Villanova in addition to Alabama back in the fall.

Tennessee basketball signed three players during the early signing period including four-star wing Ralph Scott, four-star Manny Green and three-star point guard Marquis Clark. The Vols are not heavily pursuing any other prep prospects in the country after missing out on five-star Deron Rippey Jr last month.
It’s unclear exactly how many scholarship spots Tennessee will have to fill this offseason due to the uncertainty of the NBA Draft and the transfer portal. However, the Vols have four seniors on their roster this season and will have to replace at least those four.
Tennessee will likely hit the transfer portal hard again this offseason, especially at point guard where they lose Ja’Kobi Gillespie following this season. The Vols already signing two prep wings this fall while also potentially returning Bishop Boswell, Amari Evans and Clarence Massamba makes it less of a priority at the moment.
