Tennessee football has officially signed star running back DeSean Bishop to a new contract, but is still in need of adding a back through the transfer portal. A new target has landed on the Vols’ radar to join Bishop in the running back room, and will take a visit to Knoxville in the near future.
Coming off a trip to Texas A&M, Baylor running back transfer Bryson Washington plans to visit Tennessee with an arrival set for Saturday morning, his agent tells Rocky Top Insider. He will visit Auburn on Friday, as well. He also had a visit to Wisconsin scheduled, but will no longer be taking it for the time being.
Washington is coming off his redshirt sophomore season and will have two years of eligibility remaining. In 2025, he played in 12 games and totalled 154 carries for 788 yards and six touchdowns. He also caught 12 passes for 93 yards and a score.
His finest season came in 2024, though. That year, Washington notched 1,028 yards and 12 touchdowns on the ground through 175 carries across 11 games. He also came up with 22 receptions for 217 yards and a touchdown that year.

As a true freshman, Washington redshirted after playing in only three games. He was a two-way player in high school out of Franklin High School in Franklin, Texas. A semifinalist for the 2022 Mr. Texas Football Award, he was a three-star recruit according to 247.
Now, he is a four-star transfer prospect and the No. 81 overall player in the portal. He is also considered the No. 6 running back, according to 247.
Pairing him up with Bishop would create a deadly one-two punch in the backfield. The Vols have liked to rotate at the position, but are okay with feeding a hot hand. The past two seasons, the hot hand has primarily been Dylan Sampson in 2024, then Bishop in 2025. Both recorded over 1,000 yards on the ground in those seasons.
The running back room this upcoming year will also contain second-year players Daune Morris and Justin Baker. The Vols landed no running backs in the 2026 recruiting class, meaning just Bishop, Morris and Baker are remaining scholarship backs on the roster.
