Tennessee Basketball’s road struggles this season continued with a blowout loss to rival Florida on Saturday afternoon in Gainesville. The Gators outscored the 21st-ranked Vols in both halves to pick up the 91-67 ranked win on their home court.
Tennessee and Florida traded blows for the majority of the first half, but the Gators would capitalize on several costly UT mistakes to close the half on a 15-2 run in the final minutes. Florida then kept that momentum in the second half and never let Tennessee threaten again through the final whistle of the game.
What hurt Tennessee the most was turnovers. The Vols had 18 giveaways throughout the game, and Florida took advantage. The Gators had 30 points off turnovers compared to Tennessee’s eight points off 10 turnovers.
Tennessee freshman forward Nate Ament led the way for the Vols with 17 points on 5-of-11 shooting. Jaylen Carey and Ja’Kobi Gillespie both had 12 points, while DeWayne Brown II had 10 points.
After the game, Tennessee head coach Rick Barnes and Florida head coach Todd Golden met with the media to share their reactions to the contest. Tennessee also had Ament speak for a few moments.
