One of the top players in the transfer portal made his decision Sunday afternoon. Auburn receiver Cam Coleman committed to Texas over Alabama and Texas Tech following a breakout sophomore season with the Tigers. The Vols will see Coleman for the first time this September when Texas travels to Neyland Stadium.
The matchup is a highly important one for Tennessee. It’s the Vols’ 2026 SEC opener and a game they badly need if they’re going to compete to make the College Football Playoffs next season.
Despite poor quarterback play on a bad offense, Coleman caught 56 passes for 708 yards and five touchdowns last season. As a true freshman in 2024, Coleman caught 37 passes for 598 yards and eight touchdowns. His stats don’t back it up, but Coleman has been one of the SEC’s best receivers over the last two years.
According to 247sports, Coleman is the No. 4 transfer this cycle including the top transfer receiver. He was the second highest rated uncommitted transfer behind only Arizona State quarterback Sam Leavitt. Tennessee is pursuing Leavitt along with LSU and Miami.

Texas has compiled what looks to be an extremely talented offensive roster entering the 2026 season. Coleman joins an offense that includes quarterback Arch Manning, rising junior receiver Ryan Wingo and North Carolina State transfer running back Hollywood Smothers.
While Tennessee would rather not face Coleman at all, it’s somewhat of a victory that Coleman ended up at Texas and not Alabama. The Longhorns have had quite the weekend against Alabama. Texas basketball upset the Crimson Tide in Tuscaloosa Saturday. Then Sunday, Texas beat out Alabama for Coleman and flipped Smothers from the Crimson Tide.
Tennessee football has landed 10 commits in the transfer portal to date but most have been on the defensive side of the ball. The Vols did land Oklahoma State receiver Gavin Freeman on Saturday. The Vols have also landed commitments from Penn State defensive tackle Xavier Gilliam, Penn State edge rusher Chaz Coleman, Penn State linebacker Amare Campbell, Kansas State nickel back Qua Moss, Auburn cornerback Kayin Lee, Penn State safety Dejuan Lee, LSU offensive tackle Ory Williams, Louisville kicker Cooper Ranvier and Eastern Kentucky long snapper/linebacker Blake Howard.
