VFL Jauan Jennings had a highlight moment during Sunday night’s win over the Philadelphia Eagles to help the San Francisco 49ers advance to the second round of the NFL Playoffs.
With the Niners down 16-10 entering the fourth quarter, Jennings capped off a five-play scoring drive with a 29-yard touchdown pass to running back Christian McCaffery to give San Francisco the 17-16 advantage. The Niners’ trick play involved a double-handoff that ended up with Jennings way in the backfield, as he delivered an over-the-shoulder dime to his receiver for the score.

The 49ers’ trick play worked to perfection, completely faking out the Philadelphia Eagles’ defense on their own turf. It wasn’t the final score of the game, but it did help the Niners find the 23-19 win over the Eagles to advance to the second round of the playoffs.
Jennings finished the game with one completion for 29 yards, one passing touchdown, and one reception for 45 yards.
According to Stat Muse on X, Jennings is the only non-QB to throw for two passing touchdowns during the postseason since the merger. His other touchdown came in the 2023 Super Bowl, where he threw for a 21-yard touchdown in a losing effort to the Kansas City Chiefs.

Through 16 games this season, including Sunday’s postseason win over Philadelphia, Jennings has racked up 55 receptions for 643 yards and nine receiving touchdowns. He battled injuries during the early part of the season, fighting through ankle sprains and broken ribs, but has still put together a memorable season. And with some trick play heroics on Sunday, he’ll live to fight another day alongside the 49ers.
The San Francisco 49ers advance to take on the 1-seed Seattle Seahawks next weekend. The time for the game is still up in the air at the time of this publication.
