Tennessee football doesn’t necessarily have a need at tight end through the transfer portal, but is still bringing one in for a visit. According to a report from Adam Sparks of Knox News, Georgia tight end transfer Pearce Spurlin III will be on campus this week.

Shortly after the reports hit social media, a current Tennessee tight end began the peer recruiting process. Ethan Davis, who projects to start next season, posted on his X account, ‘My day 1! Show em love vol nation!’

Spurlin played six games as a freshman in 2023, totalling three catches for 60 yards on the year. He was considered a four-star prospect, No. 106 recruit and No. 5 tight end in the 2023 class, according to 247, out of high school.

However, in March of 2024, Spurlin was forced to take a medical disqualification from football due to a congenital health condition. After missing both the 2024 and 2025 seasons, he has been fully cleared to return to action.

Tennessee is not necessarily in need of adding a tight end through the transfer portal, but you can see why the Vols are interested in adding Spurlin. He stands at 6-foot-7 and has the ability to impact the game as a pass catcher and blocker.

Currently, the room is headed by Davis, who is entering his redshirt-junior year. He backed up Miles Kitselman this past season, showing an improved ability to impact the game in pass protection and as a run blocker. He’s always had the ability to be a great pass catcher, as well.

To round out the regular season with Kitselman sidelined with injury, Davis posted 72 yards and a touchdown on five receptions at Florida and 85 yards on seven receptions vs. Vanderbilt.

Behind Davis are second-year players Jack Van Dorselaer and Dasaahn Brame, third-year Cole Harrison and true freshman Luca Wolf.
