There is just one undefeated team remaining in SEC play in women’s basketball. That’s the Lady Vols, who sit at 6-0 in the conference standings.
This places Tennessee in first place in the SEC, arguably the toughest conference in the sport. However, it’s worth noting that the Lady Vols have played one less game than South Carolina and Vanderbilt, who both sit at 6-1.
Tennessee was initially slated to play its seventh game of the SEC schedule on Monday at Ole Miss, but it has been postponed due to inclement weather. The new date for the game will be announced later. This means UT will hold onto its undefeated mark until at least this Thursday, when it hosts Mississippi State.
Here’s a full look at the SEC standings, as of Sunday, Jan. 25, at 5:15 p.m. ET:
- Tennessee – 6-0
- Vanderbilt – 6-1
- South Carolina – 6-1
- Texas – 4-2
- LSU – 4-2
- Ole Miss – 4-2
- Georgia – 4-3
- Oklahoma – 4-3
- Alabama – 3-3
- Kentucky 4-4
- Mississippi State – 2-4
- Auburn 2-5
- Florida – 1-5
- Texas A&M – 1-5
- Missouri – 1-6
- Arkansas – 0-6
More From RTI: Lady Vols Basketball at Ole Miss Postponed to Later Date Due to Inclement Weather
So far, the Lady Vols have beaten two ranked teams in the SEC slate. Those were the previous two times Tennessee was in action, downing Alabama on the road and then Kentucky at home. Other home wins in the SEC schedule include Florida and Arkansas. Other road wins are against Auburn and Mississippi State.
“It definitely matters,” Lady Vols head coach Kim Caldwell said about starting 6-0 in SEC play. “It worked out in our favor to where we could stack some games and build some confidence. And I think that was big for us and we’re not really playing great at home. So, I don’t really want to jinx it as we go on the road, but you gotta beat the teams that you can beat and because it does only get harder and you try to get one that maybe you shouldn’t.”
Tennessee’s bid to advance to 7-0 in conference play against Mississippi State is slated for Thursday, Jan. 29, in Knoxville. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. ET and will air on SECN+. Then, it’s an out-of-conference clash with UConn on Feb. 1 on the road.
UT will stay on the road for its following game, at Georgia on Feb. 5, before playing another juggernaut of the sport. The Lady Vols meet South Carolina on the road on Feb. 8.
