Tennessee basketball wing Nate Ament is the co-SEC Player of the Week after a standout performance in the Vols’ 79-73 win at Alabama on Saturday night. Ament split the honors with Auburn wing Keshawn Hall.

Ament totaled a career-high 29 points on 10-of-20 shooting from the field against Alabama. He added seven rebounds and three assists while turning it over just once. He was one of six SEC freshmen in the last 20 years to total 29 points, seven rebounds and three assists in a game.

Hall averaged 21.5 points, seven rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.5 steals last week as Auburn went on the road and earned wins over OIe Miss and Florida. The UCF transfer scored 24 points as the Tigers upset Florida in Gainesville for one of the best wins in the SEC season.

It’s the first time this season that Ament has earned SEC Player of the Week honors. Ament joins elite company at Tennessee as a freshman to earn SEC Player of the Week honors. Jarnell Stokes, Tony Harris and Allan Houston are the only other Vols freshmen to earn the honor.

Ament is starting to turn a corner in SEC play, scoring 17-plus points in each of Tennessee’s last four games. Through six SEC games, Ament is averaging 17.8 points and 5.2 rebounds per game.
