Tennessee Football Makes The Top Five For Blue-Chip Safety

Four-star class of 2027 safety Jaylen Scott is down to five schools including Tennessee football, Rivals Chad Simmons first reported Friday afternoon. Scott’s top group includes Florida State, Georgia, Miami and Oklahoma as well as the Vols.

Scott ranks as a four-star recruit and the No. 113 player in the 2027 recruiting cycle according to 247sports. He also ranks as the No. 10 safety and the No. 4 player in the state of Alabama. Rivals is not quite as high on Scott, ranking him as a four-star recruit and the No. 254 player in his class. The Mobile native also ranks as the No. 9 player in the state of Alabama.

The 6-foot, 165-pound safety committed to Auburn over the summer but backed off his commitment from the home state Tigers after they fired head coach Hugh Freeze and hired Alex Golesh to replace him.

Prior to his commitment to Auburn, Scott took an unofficial visit to Tennessee as well as Florida State. All five of his final contenders will push to get him on campus as much as possible over the coming months before he makes his commitment.

Scott put together a massive sophomore season at Williamson High School in 2024, totaling 107 tackles, two tackles for loss, 12 pass breakups, one forced fumble and four interceptions.

Tennessee football’s 2027 recruiting class contains four commitments including from one defensive back— three-star cornerback Kamauri Whitfield from Orlando. The Vols lone four-star commit is Murfreesboro offensive tackle Princeton Uwaifo.

The Vols’ four-commit 2027 recruiting class currently ranks No. 16 nationally and No. 6 in the SEC according to the 247sports team rankings.
