Despite the snowstorm that rolled through Knoxville to begin the weekend, Tennessee fans packed the house to see the Volunteers pick up an SEC win against Auburn by a score of 77-69 on Saturday night in Knoxville. The victory marks the Vols’ third straight win in conference play following road wins over Alabama and Georgia last week.
Tennessee freshman Nate Ament led the way for the Vols with 22 points. He only shot 25% from the floor on Saturday night, but he did go 12-of-15 from the free-throw line to give Tennessee some much-needed offense. Tennessee forward Jaylen Carey picked up 13 points in the game on 5-of-9 shooting, giving the Vols an early spark off the bench in the first half.
Tennessee led by as much as 16 points in the first half before going into the halftime break up by 10 points. Auburn didn’t go down without a fight, though, and cut the Vols’ lead to three points with seven minutes to play. Tennessee kept fighting and established its lead through the final whistle of the game. The Vols never trailed against the Tigers.
