A pair of former Tennessee players have made it to the final day of the 2025-2026 NFL season. Two VFLs are set for the Super Bowl LX matchup between the Seattle Seahawks and the New England Patriots on Sunday, though there is a chance that neither see the field.
Former Tennessee quarterback Josh Dobbs is the backup to New England starter Drake Maye. He’s seen action in four games, throwing for 65 yards on 7-of-10 passing throughout the season. He’s also racked up 10 rushing yards on four attempts. Dobbs’ services haven’t been called upon all too often this season, but the Broncos’ playoff quarterback situation and the injury to Bo Nix are a reminder that anyone’s number could be called at any moment.
If Dobbs and the Patriots win on Sunday, he’ll be just the second quarterback in Tennessee history to be on the winning side of the Super Bowl. Hall of Fame quarterback Peyton Manning is 2-2 in the game, with wins in 2007 and 2016 and losses in 2010 and 2014. The only other Tennessee quarterback to be featured in the Super Bowl is Matt Simms, who was the third-string backup quarterback to Matt Ryan in the 2017 game between the Falcons and the Patriots.

The other Vol for Sunday’s game is former UT wide receiver Velus Jones Jr., who is a backup running back with the Seattle Seahawks. He’s bounced back and forth between the active roster and the practice squad throughout the season, and was most recently inactive for the Seahawks’ NFC Championship win over the Los Angeles Rams two weekends ago. He was active, however, for Seattle’s divisional win over the 49ers three weeks ago. Jones ran the ball six times for 10 yards during that win.
Jones signed with the New Orleans Saints for the beginning of the season and spent time between the active roster and the practice squad. He was eventually waived in late October. Jones was then picked up the following day by the Seahawks, who designated him to the practice squad with a few regular-season appearances. He’s totaled 10 carries for 42 yards this season, including the postseason game against the Niners.
The inactive list will be released on Sunday, so stay tuned to Rocky Top Insider for more information on Jones’ status.
The 2026 Super Bowl between the New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks will take place on Sunday, Feb. 8, at 6:30 p.m. ET. The game will be broadcast by NBC.
