Tennessee football has landed its quarterback for the 2027 class. As the Vols continue to build momentum in the cycle, three-star quarterback Derrick Baker announced his commitment to Tennessee on his Instagram on Wednesday morning.
Baker is considered the No. 539 recruit in the country on 247 Composite. This slots him as the No. 37 quarterback and No. 62 player from Georgia in the cycle. Along with UT, he held offers from the likes of Auburn, Florida State, Indiana, Kentucky, Miami, Mississippi State, Ohio State, Ole Miss and plenty more.
Baker plays for Milton High School in the Peach State. The Vols have recruited the high school well under Josh Heupel, landing the likes of defensive backs Ty Redmond and Dylan Lewis from the program in the 2025 class.

Baker won’t join Tennessee until after this upcoming season as he prepares for his senior year with Milton. It’s tough to fully project what the Vols’ quarterback room will look like by then, though. While Joey Aguilar still fights for eligibility, redshirt-freshman George MacIntyre, true freshman Faizon Brandon and Colorado transfer Ryan Staub are all rostered with multiple years of eligibility.
If it does become a quarterback battle between those three, it wouldn’t be hard to believe that at least one, if not two, could enter the transfer portal following the season. UT will get more clarity on what things look like at the position on Friday, though, with Aguilar’s case moving forward.
Baker is now the fifth commitment of the 2027 class for Tennessee. He joins four-star tackle Princeton Uwaifo, four-star defensive lineman Kadin Fife, three-star linebacker JP Peace and three-star cornerback Kamauri Whitfield. The class is still young, though, and plenty more commitments are expected to trickle in over the next year.
