Tennessee Basketball picked up its 18th win on the season with a 73-63 win over LSU on Saturday night in Knoxville. The game also marked Rick Barnes’ 250th win with the Volunteers.
Tennessee freshman wing Nate Ament led all scorers in the game with 22 points, doing so on 6-of-19 shooting from the field. He also picked up nine rebounds. But while it wasn’t necessarily Ament’s most efficient night, Tennessee forward JP Estrella brought it in that department against the Tigers. Estrella had 16 points on 7-of-9 shooting from the floor, nearing a double-double with nine rebounds himself.
The story of the night for Tennessee was guard Ethan Burg, though. After scarcely playing during Tennessee’s SEC slate, Burg made the most of extended minutes on Saturday night. He totaled eight points on 3-of-4 shooting with a pair of three-pointers, giving Tennessee a spark off the bench in the first half.
The game wasn’t always pretty, but Tennessee outlasted LSU to the finish line. The Vols will now turn their attention to a Wednesday night game against Oklahoma in Knoxville next week.
After the game, Tennessee’s Rick Barnes and LSU’s Matt McMahon spoke to the media about their thoughts on the contest. Tennessee also had Burg and Estrella spend a few moments with the media as well.
