Tennessee Basketball moved to 19-7 overall and 9-4 in SEC play with an 89-66 win over Oklahoma on Wednesday night in Knoxville. Nate Ament’s career-high 29 points helped the Vols nearly cross the 90-point mark, while UT got a big boost from its trio of big men in the scoring department. Tennessee’s Felix Okpara went for 18 points, DeWayne Brown had 13 points, and Jaylen Carey finished with seven points.
Tennessee handled business for most of the game, but Oklahoma did put up some big scoring runs in the second half. The Vols didn’t crumble, though, and put their foot on the gas while finishing the game on a 21-4 scoring run over the final four minutes. Tennessee had the poise, composure, and stamina to not let the game get away from them and get to the finish line.
In addition to some big scoring nights, Tennessee guard Ja’KobI Gillespie also put his name in the Vols’ all-time record book. Gillespie’s eight steals on the night are a new Tennessee single-game program record.
After the game, Tennessee head coach Rick Barnes and Oklahoma head coach Porter Moser met with the media to discuss their reactions to the contest. Tennessee also had Nate Ament and Ja’KobI Gillespie field questions from the media as well.
