Tennessee basketball star freshman Nate Ament has earned another prestigious SEC honor. The Vols’ forward was named SEC Freshman of the Week for the sixth time this season. He also previously earned an SEC Player of the Week honor, marking seven conference awards on the year.

Over the course of two wins last week, 89-66 vs. Oklahoma and 69-65 at Vanderbilt, Ament averaged 21.0 points, 7.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game. He hit four of his 10 attempts from three and connected on all 14 of his free throw attempts, as well.

Ament’s finest outing of the pair came against the Sooners. The star forward notched 29 points, tying his career high, with six rebounds, three assists, one steal and a block. In the road win over a ranked Vanderbilt team, Ament produced 13 points and nine rebounds, including a midrange shot late in the game to help seal the win.

“I mean, I was just trying to stay with the game,” Ament said about the crucial shot. “Wasn’t really my game, but I knew at that time, time was probably running down, I could probably get us the best shot, and lost it a little bit, but just shot over him. I work on that shot a lot.”

Tennessee’s stretch of success has pushed the Vols back into the AP Poll top 25. The Vols sit at No. 22 in the country. UT also continues to build back up its NCAA Tournament resume. ESPN projects Tennessee as a 5-seed in the bracket. Additional wins down the stretch could go a long way to continue to climb.

Next, the Vols square off on the road with Missouri on Tuesday night. Tip-off between Tennessee and the Tigers is set for 9 p.m. ET and will air on SEC Network. The other three games left on the regular season schedule are at home against Alabama, at South Carolina and back at home against Vanderbilt.
