Former Tennessee quarterback Bo Hardegree was on the coaching free agency market this offseason when Robert Salah did not retain him on his inaugural Tennessee Titans coaching staff. Hardegree found himself a strong landing spot with Joe Brady hiring him as the Buffalo Bills’ new quarterback coach earlier this month.

In Buffalo, Hardegree will coach star quarterback Josh Allen. The 2024-25 NFL Most Valuable Player, Allen and the Bills are still searching for their first AFC Championship let alone Super Bowl.

Brian Callahan hired Hardegree as the Titans’ quarterback coach head of last season. After relieving himself of play calling duties in late September, Callahan named Hardegree as Tennessee’s new play caller. The former Volunteer quarterback served in that role until the end of the season.

Prior to his time in Nashville, Hardegree spent the past two seasons as the Las Vegas’ Raider quarterback’s coach and was their interim offensive coordinator after the franchise fired head coach Josh McDaniels in the middle of the season.

The Jackson, Tennessee native also had coaching stints with the Patriots, Jets, Dolphins, Bears and Broncos. Now in Nashville, Hardegree will work closely with former Kentucky quarterback Will Levis. Levis had a solid rookie season for the Titans after the franchise drafted him in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft.

A Jackson Central-Merry standout, Hardegree signed with Tennessee football in the 2004 signing class. A three-star recruit coming out of high school, Hardegree spent the 2004-07 seasons on Tennessee’s roster but never played.

Hardegree came to Knoxville as part of the same signing class as quarterbacks Brent Schaeffer and Erik Ainge. The duo split starting duties early in the 2004 season before Ainge won the job.

Ainge went on to be Tennessee’s starting quarterback throughout the rest of Hardegree’s college career while Schaeffer transferred to a junior college for a season before ending up at Ole Miss.

Buffalo fired longtime head coach Sean McDermott this offseason after a disappointing season-ending loss against the Denver Broncos in the divisional round. The Bills hired offensive coordinator Joe Brady to replace McDermott. Hardegree is looking to contribute to Buffalo finally getting over the hump.
