Tennessee football cornerback Jermod McCoy is considered one of the top talents in the upcoming 2026 NFL Draft. As a result, he was invited to participate in the NFL Scouting Combine in front of scouts across the league.
However, despite clarifying that he is now medically cleared to play over a year removed from his ACL tear, McCoy will not work out or participate in position drills at the combine, according to a report from Jordan Reid.
Instead, McCoy clarified that he is saving all of his efforts for Pro Day in Tennessee’s facility. Typically, all 32 NFL teams send representatives to that event, as well. This year, it will take place on Tuesday, March 31.
“I just want to make sure I’m putting the best thing out,” McCoy said in a video posted by Buck Reising. “Getting some more training time. Doing all that at Pro Day.”

McCoy was also asked about the potential he could’ve returned to play for Tennessee this past season. Ultimately, he didn’t play any snaps as he recovered from his injury.
McCoy said that a return was never hinging on any sort of situation. Despite rumors that he could return if the Vols were in position to make the playoffs, he said he just ‘didn’t feel ready body-wise,’ and that’s why he was forced to watch from the sideline.
Despite not playing this past year, McCoy is still considered a first-round pick and could potentially find himself drafted inside the top 10. As a sophomore with the Vols in 2024, he proved to be one of the best cornerbacks in the country on a vaunted Tennessee defense.
Now, the only holdup from a high selection is a highly anticipated Pro Day performance next month.
