For weeks now, the Dallas Cowboys have been linked to Tennessee cornerback Jermod McCoy in mock drafts by analysts and experts covering the league. And, ultimately, it made sense why the two were linked together. Dallas is in dire need of help at the cornerback position and has a Top 12 draft pick to use, while McCoy is one of the top corners in the draft, despite the unknowns around his injury recovery.

It wasn’t every mock draft by any stretch, but a few that popped up over the last month or so have tagged McCoy as either Dallas’ pick at No. 12 or a possible candidate for the pick. That may not be the case anymore, though.

Nick Harris of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram recently wrote about his viewpoint of the McCoy situation. Harris wrote on Monday that while there “are a lot of names on the draft board heading into April that could make sense with one of the two first-round picks,” he’s crossing off McCoy’s name from his list. Harris doesn’t go into any detail about why he’s doing that, but he’s also one of the more plugged-in reporters around the Cowboys. Harris cited information that he recently learned as to why he did so.

McCoy has been a highly-talked about player because of the intrigue around him. He’s one of the top corners in the draft, but it’s all coming off of his 2024 tape. McCoy missed the entire 2025 season after suffering an ACL tear in January 2025. The Tennessee cornerback did not go through any on-field drills during the NFL Combine, which may have scared off some folks in attendance.

He did comment on why he made that decision and what’s next for him, though.

“I just want to make sure I’m putting the best thing out,” McCoy said in a video posted by Buck Reising. “Getting some more training time. Doing all that at Pro Day.”

Perhaps McCoy’s workout during Tennessee’s in-house Pro Day on Mar. 31 will instill some confidence around the player for NFL teams and scouts moving forward. It’s unclear whether his lack of activity went into Harris’s reasoning for crossing him off the board, but it would make sense if so.

Pro Football Focus analyst Trevor Sikkema released his post-NFL Combine mock draft on Monday morning, with McCoy falling from his average landing spot of around No. 13 leading into last week’s event. Sikkema has McCoy going 18th overall to the Minnesota Vikings.

“I love McCoy’s 2024 tape, and he earned an elite 89.6 PFF coverage grade for his efforts as just a true sophomore,” Sikkema writes. “But he is 13 months removed from a torn ACL and still didn’t work out at the combine. That doesn’t exactly help when it comes to answering questions about his health.”

We’ll have to wait a month and see how McCoy performs at Tennessee Pro Day at the end of March to see if his draft stock rises back up before the NFL Draft in April.
