GREENVILLE, S.C. — On Thursday, Lady Vols basketball opened up its SEC Tournament run with a 76-64 loss to Alabama. However, Tennessee was without freshman guard Deniya Prawl. She was ruled out on the SEC availability report the night before and was not in attendance for the game.
After the game, Tennessee head coach Kim Caldwell met with the media. She was asked about Prawl’s status going forward.
Caldwell revealed that Prawl is in concussion protocol after suffering a blow to the head in practice. She was unable to travel with the team.
“Lauren clocked her in the head, the first day back of practice, so she’s in concussion protocol and couldn’t travel,” Caldwell said.

Prawl is averaging 3.8 points per game on 40.4% shooting from the field and 12.5% shooting from three. She is also posting 2.6 rebounds, 0.4 assists and 1.0 steals per outing. She played in 28 games and started in eight while seeing an average of 15.4 minutes per appearance.
Prawl was the only Lady Vol to miss the game due to injury. However, it marked the first game of the year that Kaiya Wynn was not with the team. Wynn announced she would be departing from the program after spending five seasons at Tennessee. She noted that many things led to the decision, but not starting on Senior Day and getting an offer to check in with 15 seconds remaining was the ‘breaking point’.
Next, Tennessee will turn its attention to the NCAA Tournament. Selection Sunday is scheduled for March 15 at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN. The first round is slated to be held on March 20-21. Tennessee is thought to be moderately comfortably in the field.
