Tennessee football has added another piece to its 2027 class on Thursday afternoon. In-state athlete Jaden Butler announced his commitment to the Vols, according to Rivals.
Butler ranks as a three-star recruit, according to 247 Composite. He is the No. 529 player in the country, No. 36 athlete and No. 23 player from the state of Tennessee.
Butler plays for Haywood out of Brownsville, Tennessee, just outside of Memphis. He picked the Vols over the likes of Vanderbilt, Missouri and Indiana.
The athlete stands at 6-foot-1 and 190 pounds. He projects to play either wide receiver or safety at the next level. Butler has been recruited by Anthony Poindexter, the co-defensive coordinator and safeties coach at UT, pointing toward a defensive future at Tennessee.

Tennessee is off to a strong start in the 2027 cycle. So far, UT has now landed five commitments in the class. The Vols boast four-star offensive lineman Princeton Uwaifo as the headliner, with four-star Kadin Fife also in the boat. However, Fife is apparently back in the evaluation process after defensive staff changes.
Three-star quarterback Derrick Baker and legacy linebacker JP Peace are also committed. More commitments are expected to roll in throughout the offseason as the class heats up, though.
This comes after Tennessee landed the No. 4 class in the country and No. 2 in the SEC via 247 in the 2026 cycle. With the addition of Butler, the 2027 class ranks 19th in the country via 247.
