Tennessee football is nearing the end of its spring slate of practices, holding its second scrimmage inside Neyland Stadium on Thursday morning. Afterward, Vols head coach Josh Heupel met with the media to discuss what transpired.
“All of our guys, 105 of them, excited to see those guys compete,” Heupel said. “Practice is really important. This is as close as you get to true game day. All the coaches on the sideline. You got to operate. So you want to see how they function and operate. You want to see how they handle a positive play, how they handle one that doesn’t go their way, too.
“The only play that matters is the next play. Creating that mindset, that maturity to go play the next play as the first play and play it independently is really important in learning how to play smart football. So a lot of positives from today. There’s some things that certainly in all three phases we got to get better at, too.”
Tennessee football’s X account also gave us a glimpse into what happened inside Neyland Stadium. The Vols posted a highlight video featuring key plays from the scrimmage.
This included a big hit from defensive back Sidney Walton, quarterback George MacIntyre scrambling, quarterback Faizon Brandon delivering a dart to tight end Ethan Davis on the run, wide receiver Joakim Dodson scampering down the sideline, tight end Dasaahn Brame making a big play down the middle of the field and more.
