Tennessee football is one of the schools still in the mix to land possibly the most electric athlete in the 2027 recruiting class. On Sunday, five-star wide receiver Eric McFarland III named the Vols, Florida, Georgia, Auburn, LSU, Kentucky, Miami, Texas, Texas A&M, Ohio State and UNLV as his top 11, according to Hayes Fawcett.
If one of these schools sticks out like a sore thumb to you, McFarland is from Las Vegas, Nevada. Dan Mullen has done a strong job in his recruitment to try to keep the talented receiver at home.
Though he’s from Las Vegas, McFarland currently plays for IMG Academy in Florida. Standing at 5-foot-9, he ranks as the No. 25 player in the country, No. 5 wide receiver and No. 4 player in Florida via 247 Composite.

“Electric offensive weapon that constantly puts defenders in conflict as he quickly transitions from receiver to runner with his speed and agility,” 247’s director of scouting Andrew Ivins wrote. “… A threat to reach the end zone almost anytime he touches the ball as he’s quick to step on the gas and is extremely difficult for tacklers to corral with his dynamic movements. In the mold of a modern slot receiver given the size, but should offer plenty of alignment possibilities as he can be positioned in the backfield or hidden in bunch sets.”
Currently, Tennessee holds six commitments in the 2027 class. This features a trio of highly-touted four-stars. Headlining is in-state wide receiver, Kesean Bowman. He is a top-50 prospect and one of the top pass catchers in the class. In-state offensive tackle Princeton Uwaifo and defensive lineman Kadin Fife are also highly ranked.
Three-stars in the class are quarterback Derrick Baker, athlete Jaden Butler and in-state legacy linebacker JP Peace. Currently, this group is ranked inside the top-15 on both 247 and Rivals for the young 2027 cycle. More commitments are expected to roll in, as well.
