Lady Vols basketball has landed its first commitment of the transfer portal cycle. After taking a visit, Tennessee has landed Liberty guard Avery Mills, she announced on Wednesday.
Mills just concluded her sophomore season, meaning she will have two years of eligibility remaining going forward. She has played both of her seasons at Liberty so far at the college level.
Mills was a First-Team All-CUSA member this past season. In 26 games and 25 starts, she averaged 15.3 points per game on 42.9% shooting from the field and 42.7% on threes. She also contributed 4.0 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game on the season.
As a freshman, Mills played in 33 games with no starts. She averaged 6.8 points on 51.9% shooting from the field 46.2% on threes and 91.3% from the free throw line. This 50/40/90 line helped her earn a spot on the CUSA All-Freshman Team.
Mills is from Lynchburg, Virginia. She stands at 5-foot-9 and plays guard.

There’s still plenty of work to be done for Kim Caldwell and company, though. This is far from a year where she will just be adding complementary pieces through the portal. Instead, it’ll be an entire roster of newcomers.
UT lost every player from last season’s team due to either a lack of eligibility or eight players deciding to enter the transfer portal. This included all five freshmen from last season’s recruiting class that ranked No. 2 in the country.
Tennessee signed two freshmen to join next season, but five-star Oliviyah Edwards requested a release from her signing. This leaves four-star Gabby Minus as the only other player on the roster. Caldwell also filled the departure of a pair of assistant coaches. She added Bill Ferrara and Isoken Uzamere to replace Gabe Lazo and Roman Tubner.
