Loyola (Chicago) center Miles Rubin committed to Tennessee basketball Sunday afternoon following his weekend official visit with the Vols. He chose the Vols over a top group that included Clemson, Syracuse and Marquette.
Rubin spent the first three years of his career with the Ramblers and transfers to Tennessee with one year of eligibility remaining. The 6-foot-10, 220-pound center is coming off a strong junior season where he averaged 11.3 points, 7.1 rebounds, 2.3 blocks and 2.3 assists per game.
The Chicago native is a high-level rim protector, ranking 12th nationally last season by blocking 76 shots. Rubin blocked 85 shots as a sophomore and, again, 76 shots as a true freshman.
Rubin posted a strong 20.2% defensive rebound rate and 8.0% offensive rebound rate last season with Loyola. His 9.4% block rate ranked 20th nationally.
The center is a limited offensive player. He shot 58.5% from the field last season and 54.3% from the free throw line. Rubin’s field goal percentage last season was the lowest of his career as he shot over 60% in each of his first two collegiate seasons.

The rim protection center ranks as a four-star and the No. 76 player in the transfer portal according to 247sports. On3 ranks Rubin as a four-star and the No. 84 player in the portal while EvanMiya ranks Rubin as a four-star and the No. 48 player in the portal.
Rubin has a prior relationship with Tennessee assistant coach Amorrow Morgan who helped recruit him to Loyola. Morgan had already left for an assistant coach position at Cal by the time Rubin enrolled at Loyola (Chicago).
Tennessee badly needed to add front court help in the transfer portal this offseason after losing Felix Okpara to graduation as well as J.P. Estrella, Jaylen Carey and Cade Phillips to the transfer portal.
The only returning front court player from Tennessee’s 2025-26 team is DeWayne Brown— who averaged 4.8 points and 3.6 rebounds in 14.7 minutes per game. Even with Rubin in the fold, Tennessee still needs to add more help on the front line.
Rubin is the third transfer to commit to Tennessee this offseason along with Belmont graduate sharpshooter Tyler Lundblade and Cal combo guard Dai Dai Ames. Ames and Rubin’s visits overlapped this weekend. The Vols now have five scholarships to work with as they put together their roster for next season.
