Tennessee football remains in the mix for one of the top running back recruits in the state. Asa Barnes, a three-star in the 2027 class, named the Vols, Arkansas, USC and Kentucky as his top four on Monday, according to a report from Rivals.

Rivals’ report also revealed his official visit plans for this summer. Barnes will see Arkansas on May 29, Kentucky on June 5, USC on June 12 and finally, Tennessee on June 19.

Barnes is ranked as the No. 520 recruit in the nation, via 247 Composite. He is the No. 35 running back in the country and No. 24 recruit out of the state of Tennessee. He is from Martin, Tennessee, where he plays for Westview High School.

Barnes is the second-highest-ranked running back from the Volunteer State. He trails just Baylor School’s David Gabriel Georges, a five-star prospect and the top-ranked player regardless of position from the state. Tennessee is also hard after Gabriel Georges in its attempt to load up on talent in the 2027 cycle.

Currently, Tennessee holds six commitments in the 2027 class. This features a trio of highly-touted four-stars. Headlining is in-state wide receiver, Kesean Bowman. He is a top-50 prospect and one of the top pass catchers in the class. In-state offensive tackle Princeton Uwaifo and defensive lineman Kadin Fife are also highly ranked.

Three-stars in the class are quarterback Derrick Baker, athlete Jaden Butler and in-state legacy linebacker JP Peace. Currently, this group is ranked inside the top-15 on both 247 and Rivals for the young 2027 cycle. More commitments are expected to roll in, as well.
