Tennessee basketball officially announced the signing of VCU combo guard Terrence Hill Jr. on Monday morning.

Hill is coming off a standout sophomore year at VCU where he averaged 15 points, 2.8 assists and 2.7 rebounds per game. The 6-foot-3 guard is a talented and efficient scorer, shooting 46.6% from the field and made 81 three-pointers at a 37% clip last season.

The transfer guard has the ability to play both on-and-off the ball but Tennessee envisions him coming in and playing point guard next season.

“Terrence comes from a great family and we are pleased to welcome them all to the Tennessee basketball program. He is a focused, mature and committed person who possesses clear leadership qualities,” Tennessee head coach Rick Barnes said in a statement. “We are bringing Terrence here to make an immediate, significant impact and we feel great about his ability to do so. He is a dynamic player with speed, quickness, a strong basketball IQ and extreme confidence. Terrence can separate off the bounce and can put the ball in the basket from all three levels. He will mesh well with the way we run our offense.”

The Vols quickly targeted Hill after he entered the portal and the VCU guard quickly had interest in Tennessee. He took visits to both Kansas and Tennessee last week before committed to the Vols over the Jayhawks.

Hill earned First Team A10 honors during his sophomore year and was stellar in the Rams’ two NCAA Tournament games. The combo guard played all 40 minutes and totaled 34 points, five assists and five rebounds in VCU’s win over North Carolina before totaling 17 points and seven rebounds in the Round of 32 loss against Illinois.

Hill marks Tennessee’s fifth commit in the transfer portal to date, joining Belmont sharpshooter Tyler Lundblade, Cal combo guard Dai Dai Ames, Loyola (Chicago) center Miles Rubin and Notre Dame forward Jalen Haralson.

All five of Tennessee’s incoming transfers committed to Barnes and his staff either during or shortly after their official visits. The Vols also landed four-star prep forward Chris Washington on Thursday.

With Hill in the fold, Tennessee now has two scholarships to work with as it fills out its roster for next season. If Nate Ament declares for the NBA Draft, the Vols will then have three scholarships to work with.
