Florida basketball has emerged as one of the top programs in the country over the past two seasons. After cutting down the nets as national champions in 2025, Todd Golden led the team to a 1-seed in the NCAA Tournament in 2026 before being upset at the buzzer in the Round of 32.
With Florida reloading through the transfer portal this offseason, the expectation is that Golden will have the Gators back in contention for yet another run at an SEC and national title. However, movement in the NBA could shake those plans up.
After just missing the playoffs this past season, rumors quickly arose that Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr may enter retirement. The 60-year-old coach has been at the forefront of the Warriors’ dynasty, but as his stars continue to age, as well, he hasn’t committed to a return next season.
While there hasn’t been any announcement yet, if Kerr does not return, Kevin O’Connor of Yahoo Sports reported that the Warriors will pursue Golden as the team’s next coach. The Lacob family, which owns the team, apparently ‘has a relationship’ with Golden, who coached at the University of San Francisco before landing the job at Florida.
