Tennessee football quarterback Joey Aguilar is headed to the next level. On Saturday, after going undrafted in the 2026 NFL Draft, Aguilar signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars, Matt Zenitz reported.

This comes after Aguilar’s lone season in Knoxville. In 2025, the Vols finished 8-5 (4-4 SEC) with a loss to Illinois in the Music City Bowl. However, the offense took a big step back in the right direction. Aguilar posted an SEC-high in passing yards at 3,565 with 24 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.

Prior to his only season at UT, Aguilar played two at Appalachian State. He also played two years at the junior college level. He only had spring practice to get ready for his season with the Vols, though. Initially, he transferred to UCLA, but re-entered the portal after Nico Iamaleava took his spot with the Bruins.

Now, he’ll look to secure a spot with the Jaguars in a quarterback room that also features Trevor Lawrence, Nick Mullens and Carter Bradley.

Aguilar traveled to the NFL Scouting Combine before the draft, but wasn’t able to participate on the field due to a recovery from a procedure dealing with a benign tumor in his shoulder. He worked his way into a spot where he threw at UT’s Pro Day at the end of March, though.

“Felt good,” Aguilar said after throwing. “You know, I’m still super early in my throwing rehab. I just finished week four of like a 10-12 week process. So I wanted to go out there, show the teams that I’m healing pretty fast and I can still sling the rock. A little injured right now, but I’ll be healthy by the time the team picks me up. I just want to show them I still got it.”

Tennessee had five players selected in the 2026 NFL Draft. This featured Colton Hood in round two to the Giants, Chris Brazzell in round three to the Panthers, Jermod McCoy in round four to the Raiders, Joshua Josephs in round five to the Commanders and Tyre West in round seven to the Lions.
