A former Tennessee quarterback is returning to the Volunteer State in the near future. According to a report from NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, Colorado quarterback Kaidon Salter has accepted an invitation to the Tennessee Titans’ rookie camp.
Attending a rookie minicamp isn’t the same thing as signing as an undrafted free agent for the players who weren’t selected in the NFL Draft. The rookie minicamp is essentially a multi-day job interview for a chance at summer workouts, but it’s still an opportunity nonetheless. And it looks like Salter will be returning to the state of Tennessee for his.
Salter originally began his career at Tennessee as a four-star prospect, but he didn’t last long in Knoxville. He originally committed to a UT staff that was led by Jeremy Pruitt, but he stuck with the Vols through the coaching change to Josh Heupel. Before he could even suit up for a game with Tennessee, though, Salter dealt with an off-field arrest and entered the transfer portal just six months after arriving on UT’s campus.
Salter took his talents to Liberty and played four years with the Flames. He threw for well over 5,000 yards during those four seasons, racking up 56 touchdown passes, 21 rushing touchdowns, and just 17 interceptions.

The Texas native then transferred to Colorado for his final collegiate season in 2025 with the hopes of filling the shoes of NFL-bound Shedeur Sanders. Salter started all nine games that he appeared in last year, but his numbers did drop a tick from what he had done the previous two seasons with Liberty. With the Buffs, Salter threw for 1,414 yards, 10 touchdowns, and seven interceptions.
Salter was not selected during the 2026 NFL Draft this past weekend in Pittsburgh, and there’s no telling how long his return to Tennessee will actually be. But he’ll at least have a few days to get out on the field and see if he can leave an impression on new Titans head coach Robert Salah and the rest of the Tennessee coaching staff. Depending on the timing of the Titans’ camp, he may be able to participate in other rookie minicamps as well.
Tennessee Football had five players selected in the NFL Draft this weekend, and seven more signed UDFA contracts on Saturday. Former Volunteer running back Star Thomas will also be participating in the Titans’ rookie minicamp.
