One of the top prospects on the board in the 2028 class for Tennessee football has reclassified to the 2027 cycle. Jackson Vaughn, an edge rusher, has decided to enter college a year earlier, he announced earlier this week via Rivals.

Along with the reclassification, Vaughn also revealed the nine schools that he will be focusing on going forward. He’s deciding between the Vols, Notre Dame, Alabama, Auburn, Cal, Miami, South Carolina, Texas and Texas A&M.

In the 2027 class, Vaugh now ranks as a four-star recruit. According to 247, he is the No. 104 player in the cycle, No. 15 edge rusher and No. 4 player out of the state of New Jersey. He is from Oradell, New Jersey, where he plays for Bergen Catholic.

“Highly productive edge rusher who totaled eight sacks as a freshman for New Jersey’s top prospect factory,” 247 national analyst Hudson Standish wrote this past fall. “Verified hovering around 6-foot-3, 220 pounds entering his sophomore season. Flashes superb change of direction skills and can dip and bend around the corner to impact the pocket. Pairs adequate get-off with flexibility and polish with the hands.”

Currently, Tennessee holds six commitments in the 2027 class. This features a trio of highly-touted four-stars. Headlining is in-state wide receiver, Kesean Bowman. He is a top-50 prospect and one of the top pass catchers in the class. In-state offensive tackle Princeton Uwaifo and defensive lineman Kadin Fife are also highly ranked.

Three-stars in the class are quarterback Derrick Baker, athlete Jaden Butler and in-state legacy linebacker JP Peace. Currently, this group is ranked inside the top-15 on both 247 and Rivals for the young 2027 cycle. More commitments are expected to roll in, as well.
