Tennessee is making an early move to show its interest in the son of a former Vol Football legend.

Class of 2028 EDGE rusher Davis Walker revealed on Wednesday that he had officially received a scholarship offer from the University of Tennessee after a “great talk” with UT co-defensive coordinator Anthony Poindexter.

Davis Walker is the son of VFL Darwin Walker, who played for Tennessee Football’s 1998 championship squad. During his time on Rocky Top, Walker was a BCS National Champion, a Third Team All-American selection (1999), and a two-time First Team All-SEC selection (1998, 1999). Walker then went on to play nine years in the NFL, spending the bulk of his time with the Philadelphia Eagles. He was originally drafted by the Arizona Cardinals in the third round of the 2000 NFL Draft.

Walker could hardly contain his excitement about his collegiate program showing interest in his son, posting his reaction on social media:

“It might be another Walker coming to Knoxville! VolNation Stand up! That would be amazing to see my son do the vol walk, put on the Orange and White, run thru the T, and hunt QBs!! So proud of you son! Congratulations! #VFL”

247Sports lists Walker as a 6-foot-4 EDGE rusher out of Cherokee High School in Marlton, NJ. The site has not given him any star rankings quite yet, but it does show that the first two schools to extend him a scholarship offer are Syracuse and Tennessee. The Orange and the Vols are also the only two offers that Walker has posted about on his social media page, with it still being extremely early in the 2028 cycle.

While we don’t know Walker’s full game yet, we do know that he’s got a serious set of wheels on his 195-pound frame. On April 23, Walker posted that he ran a 10.97-second 100-meter dash to become the fastest Class of 2028 track runner in the state of New Jersey. Walker also posted that his time earned him the third-fastest title in the class in the 200-meter dash.

Here’s a look at some of Davis Walker’s highlights from his sophomore campaign at Cherokee High School:

For all the strength and power that Darwin Walker played with on the field, his smarts and engineering intelligence rivaled it off the field. Walker’s education at Tennessee’s civil engineering school was an instrumental tool during his collegiate years, as he wanted to be both an NFL player and an engineer. He currently sits on the board of directors for Pennoni & Associates, an engineering consulting firm.

“I wanted the opportunity to play for the best possible program and also go to the best possible engineering school,” Walker said.

Tennessee documented Darwin Walker’s journey in a video in 2018. Check it out below:
